Dennis Hayes
Founder • Head Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo Instructor
Dennis is a 3rd-degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Pedro Sauer and one of the first 30 black belts Pedro ever promoted. HYBRID is an official representative of Pedro's association. Dennis also earned his second degree Judo black belt from local martial arts legend Gus Carper, and has competed at every belt level in Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and submission wrestling, as well as in MMA. By trade, Dennis serves with Roanoke Fire/EMS as a Lieutenant and Firefighter/Paramedic.

HYBRID doesn't just have one Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt — we have 12, all directly certified by Master Pedro Sauer. We're the only martial arts facility in the valley that can claim this, and the only school on the western side of the state with this many black belts under one roof. Each brings a distinct style of jiu jitsu, so you learn from all of them and build your own arsenal.
Our Muay Thai program was the first in the valley, led by an instructor with over 30 years of teaching experience in the art.
HYBRID is also home to the original Roanoke Judo Club. After leaving the YMCA, founder Gus Carper moved the club into HYBRID when we established the facility.

With over 30 years in martial arts, Tim has built an instructorship resume that includes:

Tim has trained directly under some of the world's most renowned instructors, including Sirichai Sirisute, Frank Cucci, and Pedro Sauer.
Dave Damico
Lead Judo Instructor
Dave is a 2nd-degree black belt in Judo with more than 25 years in the art, earning both his first and second degree black belts directly from Roanoke's own Gus Carper. He wrestled in both high school and college.

Pat Carver
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Fundamentals Instructor
Pat is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and hails from Pennsylvania, where he wrestled. He teaches our Jiu Jitsu fundamentals class on Wednesdays.
KC Cockran
Muay Thai Instructor
KC is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt and an active mixed martial arts competitor. He also teaches our Muay Thai classes. Some of KC's accolades are:
- 4-time Lightweight Champion in MMA
- Former #1 ranked amateur Lightweight fighter in VA

Brian Morales
Assistant Judo Instructor
Brian is a Judo black belt and a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu purple belt. He took first place at the 2019 VA State Games Judo Championships and has medaled in several local Jiu Jitsu tournaments. He assists in teaching Judo on Monday nights.
Brian Mathis
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instructor
Brian is a BJJ and Judo black belt and has been training and competing for well over a decade. Brian teaches the early morning and Sunday classes.
